“Are you ready, Malcolm?”
Aurora’s smile was bright, nestled between lips painted light blue as she set down a car at her feet. Her tiny friend looked in awe. It looked like a real junker. Malcolm wondered if she even had to pay to get it from the lot, or if that winning smile was all they needed. Granted, being asked by someone Tall enough to crush you like a cockroach helps find more agreeable attitudes in people.
Her platform shoes caused a soft rumble in the ground under Malcolm as she stood again, towering over both Malcolm and the gifted car. The wind picked up; a cool breeze swept the area of the sweltering humidity. She was either unperturbed by the cooler air, or her thigh-high stockings were doing a far better job than Malcolm realized. He found himself wishing for longer sleeves.
“So, what’s with the car?” Malcolm said.
“Well…” Aurora gave him a cute smirk, “I’ve been noticing that you look away from me when I accidentally step on these things. At first, I thought you were being polite, because you know I can be a little careless, but I started to notice something else.”
With a shift of her weight and lifting of her leg, she presented a massive platform shoe to Malcolm. This close, he knew he lacked the height to even touch the toe. He felt himself suppressing a thrill that ran up his back. So close to her big shoes, he couldn’t help but stare.
“Took a bit, but I found out that you liked this. But which part?”
Aurora pivoted to her heel, raising the sole of her platform shoe upward, the scuffs and wear on the tread tantalizingly visible to him.
“Is it the thought of seeing this coming down?”
Malcolm fought back the urge to swallow audibly. Whether or not he had thought about it before, he certainly did now. It was a remarkable sight. He couldn’t think long about it before she let her shoe come down swiftly and contacted the top of the car, he only now remembered it was in front of him. The shocks of the car, what was left of it, gave a little bounce, in a valiant effort to stay upright.
“Is it when I first touch it?” Aurora ventured a guess.
Silence and awed staring were all she got in return.
“Oh, maybe it’s when I go farther?” And she began to shift her weight.
The hood of the car, already damaged, instantly crumpled to the top of the main bulk of the chassis. It was too fast to register any sound, but Malcolm could hardly dwell on the subject as he watched the frame begin to bend, contort, and warp under pressure it was not meant to withstand.
The rest of the car didn’t crunch as fast as the hood. This close, Malcolm could hear the suspension creak and buckle beneath his titanic friend. A little grunt came from Aurora as a little more weight came down through her leg and into her shoe, bowing the doors outward as the remaining frame of the car began to give.
Aurora began to twist her foot, first to the sound of rubber creaking on the pavement’s surface before four successive pops louder than even she expected as the tires exploded. She jumped a bit, making what she thought was a small squeak of surprise. It was followed by a giggle, realizing how silly it was for her to be afraid of loud noises. She decided that just her weight could not finish this job. So, she lifted her shoe and gave it a little stomp.
From Malcolm’s viewpoint, it was a terrifying, yet thrilling remarkable sight. Such a powerful element lifting, and with a fresh rush of force, thrust downward onto a single spot. This was enough to collapse the rest of the wreckage until her platform contacted the street level.
“Mmmn, there,” Aurora gave a few more good twists into the flattened remains beneath her. “How’d I do?”
Malcolm was still staring, wide-eyed and speechless. This was his friend. This was only a taste of what she was capable of. She was just playing with him, wanting to do something to please him. His face was as red as he ever felt.
“B-Beautiful…” was all he was able to squeak out.
Aurora felt a giggle escape her, and she lifted her shoe. Malcolm could briefly see what was left of the car before Aurora’s massive platform was gingerly set-in front of him, nudging him like someone would a particularly stubborn frog.
“I’m glad I could make you feel so happy, Malcolm.”
Instead of falling over, Malcolm spread his arms, embraced the rounded wall of her platform in front of him, and hugged it. He closed his eyes. She was so kind, and generous to him that he didn’t even notice the tears overwhelming him and silently dripping onto her shoe.
Aurora stayed with him, without moving, letting him have his time. Her smile may have retreated behind her lips, but the warmth of her happiness still shone from her and upon her tiny friend.
